ANCCE registered almost 3000 new Purebred Spanish Horse breeders in 2017

50% of these new breeders were from Spain while the other 50% were internationals from countries such as the Seychelles or Japan.

More than 10,000 new PRE horses were registered in the Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book.

In 2017, ANCCE, as the manager of the Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book (known by many as LG PRE ANCCE) registered almost 3000 new breeders and more than 10,000 new PRE Horses. This translates into a 3.8% increase in the total herd census; thus, as of December 31st, there are 239,813 horses from 32,638 stud farms in 66 countries.

Fifty percent of these new breeders were from Spain, while the other 50% were internationals from countries such as the Seychelles or Japan. In Spain, Andalusia has produced the highest number of new breeders, thus topping the PRE herd population ranking, followed by Catalonia, Castilla y León and Extremadura. On the international scene, Germany and Italy have registered the highest number of new breeders in 2017.

Regarding all other Stud Book services, there were 4,678 Revisions for Basic Aptitude as Breeding Stock, 9214 changes of ownership were processed (6370 from national owners and 2844 from internationals).

Throughout 2017, the revision and assessment trips abroad took PRE Stud Book authorized veterinarians to twenty-three different countries, such as Chile, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Morocco, to mention a few. In the past few months, visits have been made to Argentina, the USA, New Zealand and Australia; this proves the good results of promotion carried in recent years in an effort to make the breed known universally.

Likewise, ANCCE and PRE Stud Book representatives participate at Trade Fairs and congresses throughout the year to offer courses for breeders and enthusiasts. They also hold meeting with the authorized veterinarians and international associations that cooperate and collaborate with ANCCE to update information and procedures as well as discuss new management procedures. In November of 2017, coinciding with SICAB, the annual training course for European collaborating associations was held. Last month, a course was held for American Association representatives.

In March of this year, the PRE Stud Book office renewed its Quality Certification in keeping with UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008 standards. This body certifies the correct and efficient implementation of a processing system with regards to the requirements specified in the UNE EN ISO 9001:2015 norms. This certification backs the excellence of the work carried out, which translates into greater efficiency and improvements in the services offered to Purebred Spanish Horse breeders the world over.

Finally, thanks to the work of the PRE Breeding Program over the past 15 years, 70,000 genetic assessments have been carried on PRE Horses. Just last month, the PRE Stud Book published the 13,500 genetic assessments for Dressage on its web site. This information is fully accessible and free of charge for breeders, as is the data contained in the Official Breeding Catalog, which is an extremely useful tool that contributed to the dissemination of the best PRE genetics, while at the same time increasing the genetic progress in future generations, especially within the current economic situation, where it is essential to improve stud farm productivity and competition to guarantee feasibility.
