The ANCCE General Assembly Backs the 2024 Administration and Approves the 2025 Budget

SICAB 2025 will be held from the 18th to the 23rd of November in Sevilla

ANCCE, the Royal National Purebred Spanish Horse Breeders’ Association held its 52nd General Assembly today in Sevilla. Members ratified the main points on the agenda: the 2024 administration and accounts—a five million euro budget—and the agreements adopted by the Board of Directors.

During his intervention, ANCCE President Jose Juan Morales acknowledged the commitment of members and those making up the Board “for their support, which has been key to consolidating our projects and moving forward together to strengthen ANCCE and the entire breeder community. This is the only way to achieve our goals.”

Morales underscored the strength of the Association, that counts on its own resources, and has become consolidated as a reference among breeders, both in Spain and internationally. “ANCCE is a healthy organization,” he stated.

Likewise, he reminded everyone that SICAB, the International PRE Trade Fair, will be celebrating its 35th edition this year. The event will run from the 18th to the 23rd of November in the city of Sevilla, thus confirming its role as an essential date on the international equestrian calendar.

The Presidents of the various Commissions presented the main advances in their corresponding fields, whether regarding members, sports, promotion or other areas. Most outstanding is the pioneering role of the ANCCE Molecular Genetic Laboratory. Morales stated that “this project places us at the forefront within the sector. It has become a reference for the University of Cordoba, the Moroccan Royal Household, as well as for other equine breeds, including the KWPN and other animal species such as the Iberian pig. It is one of our most exciting, flagship challenges.

In terms of the actual breed, the Purebred Spanish Horse Studbook (LG PRE ANCCE) presented its 2024 annual data. All in all, 12,615 new horses were registered (6,228 males and 6,387 females). Moreover, 2,775 new stud farms were registered, thus bringing the total census, as of December 31st, to 290,407 horses belonging to 50,188 active stud farms in 71 countries.

Currently, the Purebred Spanish Horse represents 70% of all horses registered in Spain. Among the newly registered breeders, 39% are located abroad—mainly in the United States, Italy, and the Netherlands— while the remaining 61% are breeders located in Spain, with Andalusia (46 %), Madrid and Catalonia leading the roster.

To conclude, the Assembly appointed breeders Eduardo and Antonio Miura—from the emblematic Miura fighting bull ranch—and Ecuadorian breeder Gonzalo Chiriboga as 2025 Honorary Members, in recognition of their outstanding careers and contributions to the sector, both nationally and internationally.
