Jose Daniel Martin Dockx and Malagueño LXXXIII, 5-star CDI Champions in Doha

This past weekend, the spotlight was on international Dressage at Doha, in Qatar, a city where horses play a very important role. The crown jewel of equestrian events in Qatar and the Al Shaqab racing venue is CHI AL SHAQAB, held from the 20th to the 24th of February.

This edition was a 5-star CDI that enjoyed the participation of two PRE Horses. Malagueño LXXXIII, owned by Francisco Santiago Ruiz, and ridden by Jose Daniel Martin Dockx, together with Romero de Trujillo, bred by Jose Franco Sanchez, owned by Yeguada Trujillo, and ridden by Teia Hernandez Vila.

The Grand Prix was held on Friday, with 18 pairs. Spain’s Olympic rider, Martin Dockx in the saddle of Malagueño LXXXIII, saw success at his fingertips, with a score of 72.283%, thus placing him second. Teia Hernandez and Romero de Trujillo took thirteenth place with a score of 68.065%.

On Saturday the 24th of February, Dockx and Malagueño LXXXIII, once again returned to write another page in PRE Dressage history. Dancing to the sound of Spanish melodies and the guitar of Paco de Lucia, the pair’s Freestyle performance was extremely difficult, as it combined exercises with maximum collection and extension that were performed with great ease. The judges rewarded Malagueño’s quality—especially the piaffe—with several nines.  About the earn 80%, their final score was 79.300%, which earned them the gold medal.  Teia Hernandez holding the reins of Romero de Trujillo concluded her participation among the Top 10 thanks to a score of 72.790%.

For a second consecutive year, a Purebred Spanish Horse stood on the highest step of a 5-star International Dressage Competition podium. This success is a fantastic presentation when promoting Spain’s most famous breed to the world.
