Araceli Pons riding Mejorano V is the latest U14 Spanish National Champion

In the U14 category of Spain’s National Championship, there were 47 participants. One of Carlos Torrell’s students, Araceli Pons riding Mejorano V, a PRE bred by Yeguada Bauza and owned by José Manuel Pons Sintes, concluded a wonderful season with a Gold Medal! As shared in previous reports, this pair was the best among the Spaniards competing at the European Championship, in this category. Their averages were consistent and always above 68% to finally place 14th in the Final.

As a result of this wonderful season, Araceli Pons and her horse Mejorano V have been proclaimed U14 Spanish National Champions. In the first round, they were the only pair to surpass the 70% barrier; 70.134 to be exact, thus placing them first. In the second round—the individual test—Araceli Pons was unable to enjoy the fruits of success. With a minimal difference of one point with first place, Araceli and Mejorano V placed second with an average of 68.233.

For the third and final test, held last Sunday, the pair maintained themselves among the top three. With an average that improved on the second day—68.844—they retained third place.

Tallying the averages from the three performances in the arena placed the pair in first place, thus taking home the Gold Medal at Spain’s National Junior Dressage Championship in the category U14, held last week in Segovia.
