    Rafael Conde Gallardo passes away

Last Friday, at the age of 88, breeder Rafael Conde Gallardo passed away at a hospital in Llerena (Badajoz). He was a pharmacist by trade and breeder by vocation who began breeding Purebred Spanish Horses almost 40 years ago on the hilly pastures of Sierra Grande in Extremadura, on the farm known as Dehesa Nueva Cholaica.

As the sixties were about to conclude, Rafael Conde purchased the mares that became the foundation of his stud farm, with Farruca II, Zurita V, Malagueña and Madrileña, all with the N brand. His stallions were from the same bloodline and included Fetiche, Reberte and Tebeo in addition to several horses from the Francisco Fernández-Daza stud farm, such as Visigodo, Apetecido II or Elegido IV. This blend created what is known today as Ganadería Rafael Conde.

Considered one of the historic breeders from Extremadura, his achievements include silver and bronze medals for his 1998 and 1999 Champions with Vanidosa XVI and Violetera II. He also earned several Mare Breed Champions and Best Breeder Awards at a number of venues, and several competition awards at events held throughout Spain. His greatest achievement is perhaps the fact that his mares were the origin of celebrated PRE stud farms in Spain.

His exemplarity values as a breeder will always be remembered, as will his exquisite professionalism, generosity and friendliness shown to fellow breeders and friends.

From ANCCE we would like to offer our condolences and support to his family during this moment of hardship.

    Rest in Peace
